Williams' appointment as dean is effective March 1. Growing up in a southern city, she had seen the effects of social injustice for much of her life. Going to school in a different part of the country would allow her to escape that culture, she believed. More Student Stories Honors College Announces 2019/2020 Common Book The University of Alabama Honors College has selected The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henríquez for its Common Book Experience in 2019/2020. The Honors Common Book is selected by a campus-wide committee composed of faculty and staff. It is read by all new freshmen in the Honors College, and it is discussed by freshmen, faculty, and upperclass mentors, within and outside of the classroom. More Honors Program Stories Leader within Oregon State’s Honors College Named UA Dean An English professor and associate dean who oversees the honors curriculum at Oregon State University has been named dean of The University of Alabama’s Honors College. Dr. Tara Williams’ appointment as dean is effective March 1, said Dr. Kevin Whitaker, UA executive vice president and provost. Honors Year One The programs in HYO are designed to engage first year students with other Honors students, faculty, and staff, in order to help the newest members of the Honors College reach their potential. Honors College Assembly HCA fosters community among Honors students through social activities; community service; research opportunities; and student/faculty interactions. HCA also provides numerous leadership opportunities. Alumni and Friends Alumni and friends of the Honors College provide ongoing support for the College and our students through networking, internships, job shadowing, and financial support. Our Vision: To have the Honors College be recognized, from local to national, as a home to a diverse community of scholars and a leader in honors education and student engagement. Randall Research Scholars Program The Randall Research Scholars Program (formerly Computer-Based Honors) is a nationally-recognized undergraduate research program which pairs exceptional students with leading research professors and cutting edge computing technology to complete scholarly research projects in any field of study.
